MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 3-seeded Indiana Tech baseball team fell to No. 1-ranked and No. 1-seeded Faulkner, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon in the Montgomery Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round at Harrison Field.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 in the top of the first with a pair of hits, a walk and a sacrifice fly before tacking on four more runs in the second to extend their lead to 6-0. A two-out RBI single from
Dante Biagini put the Warriors on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, but the Opening Round hosts got the run back in the next half inning on a solo shot to center.
The next six innings would be relativity quick for both sides with five frames of three-up, three-down, but the Orange and Black would get their offense cooking in the bottom of the night trailing 7-1.
Ryan Meisenheimer led off the inning reaching via an error and came around to score four batters later as Biagini knocked him in with an RBI single, but that would be all the Warriors would get as Faulkner sent Tech into the elimination bracket with the 7-2 win.
Biagini finished the day 4-4 with a double and two RBI's while
Dillin Diehm was 1-3 with a double.
Brandon Hillier threw 6.1 innings on the mound in relief, scattering eight hits and allowing just one earned run in his outing.
Tech (43-20) now faces off with No. 2-seeded Webber International on Wednesday in an elimination game. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. EDT from Harrison Field.
