NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season, and the first win for first-year head coach
John Dunn in a Warrior uniform, Tuesday afternoon as they defeated Holy Cross College, 9-0, at Saints Field. It's the most goals for the Warriors since September 16, 2017, when they defeated Shawnee State 10-1.
Malte Dennert scored the first goal of the day in the fourth minute as he converted a penalty kick after being fouled in the box.
Cody Loss made it a 2-0 game seven minutes later while
Erick Turner scored twice in the last five minutes of the first half to make it a 4-0 game at the break.
Turner put the Warriors up 5-0 in the 58
th minute as he converted the penalty kick to complete the hat trick, the first since September 23, 2017 when
Brennan Cochran scored three times against Concordia.
The Orange and Black tacked on four more goals in the final 20 minutes of action and had nine players record at least one point, while three players (Turner, Dennert and
Ruben Leonardo) had two or more goals. Dennert would also tally two assists to tie Turner for a game-high six points.
Ivan Safranic picked up the first win of his Tech career after a spotless first half and assisted on Turner's second goal while
Edwin Rosado made one save in the second half.
Tech (1-1) returns to action on Labor Day, Monday September 3 as they host Huntington University in their home opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
