FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team opened up its home slate Wednesday evening with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) against the University of Northwestern Ohio in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play inside the Schaefer Center. The win snapped the Racers 11-game winning streak.
Tech brought the energy early on as they jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead over the Racers in the first. The Warriors kept their foot to the gas pedal as a 5-0 run put the hosts up 17-9 before going ahead 22-12. UNOH went on a 10-2 spurt to pull within two points and fought off four set points, but Tech took the first set after a kill from
Jordan Aylward.
The second set was a hard-fought battle as well. A 6-0 run to open the set gave the Orange and Black some more momentum. The Racers would show some fight in them as they battled back from a 19-14 deficit to make it a 22-19 game, but the Warriors stood firm to take the 2-0 lead.
With the raucous crowd behind them, the Warriors raced out to a 13-4 lead in the third set and never looked back as they completed the sweep with a 25-20 victory to hand the Racers their first loss of the year.
Olivia Niekamp and
Allison Cole led the way in kills for the Warriors with eight each while the latter hit .308.
Madeline MacDonald had a big night recording 19 digs and three aces while
Madison Park had a team-best 16 assists.
Tech (7-5, 1-1 WHAC) is back in action Friday night as they host WHAC foe Cornerstone. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
