ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team suffered a setback Wednesday evening as they fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Siena Heights in straight sets (26-24, 25-18, 25-22) at the SHU Fieldhouse.
The two sides went back-and-forth in the first through the first 23 points, but a 5-0 run from the Saints put them ahead 16-11. Tech answered right back with a 5-0 run to knot the set up at 16-all and the trading of points began again. The Warriors held a 22-20 lead, but the hosts rallied back to tie it up at 22-22 and fought off set point at 24-23 to make it a 24-24 game before taking the next three points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Another 5-0 run from Siena Heights put them ahead 9-4 early in the second set before pushing the advantage to 17-10. A 3-0 spurt gave the Warriors some momentum, but the Saints came right back with a 4-3 run to regain control. The next three points went to the Orange and Black, but the hosts rattled off four straight points to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Tech found themselves down 6-1 right off the opening serve in the third, but battled back to cut the deficit down to 13-12. The visitors tied the set up at 17-17, but SHU came right back with a 3-0 run to force a timeout from the Warriors. Tech answered with a 5-1 run to put the pressure on the Saints with a 22-21 lead and appeared to be start the comeback, but Siena Heights won the next four points to win the set and complete the sweep.
Aubree Eggers had a team-high eight kills, five blocks and a .350 hitting percentage while
Courtney Mack and
Jordan Aylward had six kills each.
Autumn Stokes dished out 18 assists while
Mara Zell had a team-best 16 digs.
Tech (8-7) returns to action Friday as they start a three-game homestand with a visit from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
