MARSHALL, Mo. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team had another strong showing this weekend at the Missouri Valley Invitational inside the Burns Athletic Center with four wrestlers earning podium honors and the team finishing in seventh place with 95.5 points to wrap up their tournament schedule for the season.
Sawyer Miller highlighted the weekend by going 5-0 and winning the 125-lbs. title, his first of the season. The Berne, Indiana native won three of his matches by decision and picked up a fall in his second match of the tournament in 85 seconds. The South Adams High School product concluded his title quest with an 11-3 major decision over Menlo's Riley Siason in the championship bout.
Robert Humphrey took second place in the 149-lbs. division and went 5-1 over the weekend, falling to second-ranked Devin Reynolds of Grand View in the finals, 6-0. The Snider High School product started off his weekend with back-to-back falls in under 80 seconds while he earned a 17-2 tech fall in the quarterfinals.
Oscar Martinez went 4-2 to take fourth place at 197-lbs. while
Mason Gaines went 5-3 and finished in eighth place at 157-lbs. Gaines had two pins and a tech fall while Martinez had a tech fall and a major decision.
Jonathan Watkins would pick up two falls over the weekend while going 4-2 at 157-lbs.
Tech returns to action on January 31 as they travel to Lourdes University for a conference dual. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. from the Franciscan Center Gymnasium.
