SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team returned to action Friday night following a 55-day break and defeated Lawrence Tech, 5-2, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at the Southfield Ice Arena. The win extends the Warriors win streak to 11 games, the best in program history.
"I was satisfied with our effort in our first game back from the break," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "We have some things to clean up here moving forward and we'll address those before our game tomorrow."
The Warriors got off to a strong start with two goals in the first five and a half minutes of action.
Ryan Attwood started the scoring with a goal at the 17:30 mark while
Joel Holmberg followed up with a goal just two minutes and 47 seconds later to make it a 2-0 game. Tech would score twice more in the second as
Nick Papandrea and
Stavros Soilis each lit the lamp while the Blue Devils made it a 4-2 game with 26 seconds left in the period.
Cameron Wirick shut the door on the hosts with 18 seconds left in the game to score an empty-netter and make it 5-2 game and give the Warriors their 11
th straight victory.
Bryson Linenburg made 25 saves in net to pick up the win while Papandrea Wirick,
Mike Tish,
Jimmie Kotilainen and
Kristian Alafriz each had an assist.
Tech (16-4-0, 7-2-0 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they conclude their season series with Lawrence Tech in a nonconference matchup. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. from the Southfield Ice Arena.
