SYLVANIA, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team fell to Sooner Athletic Conference rival Lourdes University, 29-17, Thursday evening inside the Franciscan Center Gymnasium.
The Gray Wolves jumped out 17-0 lead over the Warriors three matches into the dual thanks to a tech fall and a pair of pins.
Robert Humphrey got the Orange and Black on the scoreboard in the 149-lbs. match with a 12-7 win. The Snider High School product scored three takedowns in the first period to take a 7-5 lead and allowed just two more points over the next two periods.
Jonathan Watkins,
Rahman Johnson and
Eric Vermillion would record victories in the next three matches to bring Tech within five points. Watkins notched a 6-0 decision while Johnson used a pair of escapes and riding time to come away with a 5-4 victory. Vermillion made it four straight wins for the Warriors with a 6-2 win.
A pin for Lourdes at 184-lbs. made it 23-12 with two matches to go, and while
Oscar Martinez picked up five team points for Tech with an 18-0 tech fall, the hosts closed out the match with a pin in the heavyweight bout to take the dual, 29-17.
Tech (8-4) concludes the regular season on Sunday as they host NCAA Division III and region foe Manchester University on Senior Day. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
