LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team defeated No. 13-ranked Southeastern University, 38-10, Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2019 NWCA National Duals, presented by the United States Marine Corps and Defense Soap, inside Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Expo Center.
The Warriors are in the semifinals of the NWCA National Duals for the third time in program history and the first time since the 2017 event.
Tech began the match in dominating style by recording pins in their first four matches, with
Sawyer Miller and
Erique Early notching theirs at 2:07 and 2:41, respectively, while
Gaige Torres and
Justin Atkinson defeated their opponents in 34 and 95 seconds, respectively. Torres' fall was the third quickest of the entire event at the time of this release.
Following a setback at 157-lbs., the Warriors would get back-to-back major decisions from
Jacob Gross and
Eric Vermillion, with the former winning 12-4 and the latter winning 16-6 to make it a 32-6 match.
Josue Hill and
Oscar Martinez followed that up with back-to-back wins at 10-6 and 2-0, respectively, with Hill knocking off the No. 11-ranked wrestler at 184-lbs to make it a 38-6 Tech advantage.
Tech (8-1) will return to action Saturday against No. 7-ranked Life University at 9 a.m. in the National Duals Semifinals from Freedom Hall. Both the championship and third-place matches will take place at 12 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.
