SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team opened up the second half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play Wednesday evening with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-20) sweep of Lourdes University inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Jordan Aylward had a match-high 13 kills and five blocks while hitting .480.
Olivia Niekamp had nine kills while
Allison Cole had seven kills and five blocks.
Madison Park had 24 assists and eight digs while
Madeline MacDonald had 18 digs to round out Tech's leaders.
The Gray Wolves took the first point of the match, but a kill from Aylward kicked off a 4-1 run in which she had three kills. The two sides traded points and found themselves locked up in an 11-11 set, but a 6-2 run from the Warriors forced the hosts to call a timeout. Leading 17-13, Tech closed out the match 6-2 spurt, with Aylward getting the last point to give her six kills in the set.
Lourdes took the first point of set two, but Tech came right back with a 6-2 run to take control of the set. The Gray Wolves battled back to tie the set up at 9-9, but a kill from
Havilyn Cummings sparked a 7-3 run to give them a 16-13 lead. Tech held a slim 20-19 lead after a run from the hosts, but the visitors closed out the set with a 5-2 run, with Aylward getting the final point once again, to go up 2-0 in the match.
Tech kicked off the third set on a 9-5 run as they led from the start and never looked back. The Warriors grew their advantage to 16-10, but a 4-0 run from Lourdes cut the lead down to two points. After trading points over the next four serves, the Orange and Black took the next five points to take a 23-16 lead and eventually closed out the match with yet another kill from Alyward.
Tech (19-6, 7-4 WHAC) returns to action on Friday, October 18 as they host Cornerstone University to kick off a five-match homestand. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
