FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team kicked off its final weekend of home games Friday evening with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-13) victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside the Schaefer Center.
Olivia Niekamp had a match-high nine kills and two blocks while
Allison Cole and
Madelyn Omo had seven kills each, with the latter hitting .417.
Genna Karbowski dished out 19 assists while Madeline MacDonad had 25 digs.
The Wolverines jumped all over the Warriors to begin the match as they raced out to a 7-2 lead and forced Tech to call an early timeout. A 6-0 run as part of an 9-2 spurt from the hosts powered them to an 11-9 advantage and caused the visitors to use a timeout. The two sides traded runs over the next 20 serves while the Orange and Black outlasted UM-Dearborn to take the first set 25-22.
The Warriors got out to a 7-3 lead to open up the second set and took advantage of Wolverine errors to extend their advantage to 14-6. UM-Dearborn proceeded to go on a 7-0 run though to cut the deficit down to 14-13 before tying the match up at 15-all and 16-all. Tech rebounded with a 6-1 run to go back up 22-17 and regain control of the set to take a 2-0 lead with the 25-19 win.
UM-Dearborn took the first two points of the third set, but the Orange and Black countered with a 13-3 spurt to grab the momentum for good. The visitors got within four points at 14-10, but an 8-2 run from Tech stopped any shot of a comeback from the Wolverines as the Warriors cruised to the 25-13 win to complete the sweep.
Tech (22-7, 10-5 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Madonna University on Senior Day. First serve is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
