GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 23-ranked Indiana Tech men's basketball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival and No. 12-ranked Cornerstone University, 63-55, on Saturday afternoon inside Mol Arena.
Josh Kline had a team-high 14 points while grabbing seven rebounds while
Mitch Morken had 11 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
Cory McKinney added 11 points and seven rebounds while
Lucas Lehrman had six points and nine rebounds.
The Golden Eagles jumped all over the Warriors early and forced a timeout at the 17:33 mark in the first half following a 6-0 run and two turnovers from the visitors. Cornerstone continued to dominate the game thanks to a 16-0 run and held Tech scoreless for an 11-minute stretch as they increased the advantage to 26-6. A basket from Lehrman broke the scoring drought with 3:28 to go in the opening half and sparked a 13-4 to end the period and cut the deficit to 30-19.
Three straight baskets from Kline cut the lead down to single digits and sparked a 12-2 spurt for the Orange and Black as they found themselves down just 32-31 with 15:22 on the clock. Lehrman gave Tech their first lead of the game at the 14:39 mark to cap the 14-2 run. The two sides engaged in a defensive struggle over the next several minutes, but an 11-0 run from the hosts put the Golden Eagles back ahead at 46-37 with 8:26 to play.
Tech cut the lead back down to four points with 6:20 remaining and again with 3:06 on the clock, but couldn't get it back to a one possession game while Cornerstone went 5-6 from the free throw line in the final 60 seconds of the game to come away with the 63-55 victory.
Tech (2-6, 1-2 WHAC) returns to action on Tuesday, November 26 as they host Lawrence Technological University. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
