FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 17-ranked Indiana Tech men's soccer team saw their season come to a close late Saturday night on a snow-covered Warrior Athletic Field as they fell to No. 3-ranked University of Mobile, 2-0, in the championship match of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round – Fort Wayne Bracket.
With the opportunity to head to Irvine, California for the final site of the 2019 NAIA National Championship, the two teams would have to sit through a four-hour delay due to snow that delayed officials and covered the field and required clearing. Athletic staff teamed up with Indiana Tech's Buildings and Grounds to clear the field for a 9 p.m. local time kickoff in the Summit City.
The Rams, who were the top seed in the Fort Wayne bracket, scored both their goals in the second half just 10 minutes apart. Ronaldo Fortune took advantage of a misplay in the box by Tech's defense and buried one in the net to make it a 1-0 game in the 61
st minute, while Fortune found Guzman Diaz in the 71
st for the insurance goal.
Tech's best chances came in the 53
rd and 83
rd minute as
Luke Jones and
Will Harris each put shots on target, but were stopped by Mobile keeper Michael Samnik, who finished the game with two saves.
Edwin Rosado finished the match with seven saves, including a pair of dazzling ones that kept the match scoreless in the first half.
Tech finishes the season 17-5-1, their second highest win total in program history.
