Tech Rolls Over Quakers

RICHMOND, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated NCAA Division III opponent Earlham College, 77-32, Wednesday evening in nonconference action at Lingle Court.
 
Alexis Hill led Tech with a game-high 17 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists while Laney Steckler had 12 points. Emma Tuominen had 11 points, four rebounds and three assists while Kyra Whitaker had 10 points and three rebounds. Rachel Bell stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
 
The Quakers, coached by former Tech assistant and Fort Wayne native Shauna Watson, got out to a 5-2 lead over the Warriors, but an and-one play from DeAnn Kauffman and a triple from Kelsey Ivers put the Orange and Black up 8-5 at the 4:15 mark. Earlham came right back with three quick points to knot the score up at 8-8, but a 7-0 spurt by the visitors, coupled with a 3:38 scoring drought from the hosts, gave Tech a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Warriors began to assert their dominance in the second quarter with an 18-2 spurt that made it a 33-10 game with 2:55 to play in the first half. The Quakers broke a 6:15 scoring drought with a pair of free throws with a pair of free throws, but couldn't gather any momentum as the Warriors led 37-14 at the break.
 
The third quarter would mirror the second as the Warriors outscored their foes 17-5 and held them scoreless for a 6:16 stretch during the period, allowing Tech to extend their lead to 45-14. The Quakers were finally able to break double-digits in a quarter during the final 10 minutes of action, but the Warriors put up 23 points of their own to not allow any shot of a comeback to enter the equation as they notched their first win of the season.
 
Tech (1-1) returns to action on Tuesday, November 12 as they host regional rival Grace College in their home opener. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
