Warriors Fall to Saints in Top 25 Matchup

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to No. 25-ranked and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Aquinas College, 60-55, on Saturday afternoon inside the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.

Kendall Knapke scored a game-high 17 points while adding six rebounds and two steals. Alexis Hill added 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals while DeAnn Kauffman had 10 points, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Bella Lozano-Dobbs had seven points while Rachel Bell dished out a team-best six assists.

The Saints controlled the first quarter as they used an 11-2 run and a three-minute and 53-second scoring drought from the Warriors to go up 20-11 with 1:59 to play in the quarter. Tech scored the last five points of the period though, to carry the momentum into the second as they went on an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to 23-19 with 8:13 left in the half. Back-to-back three-pointers from Knapke sparked an 11-0 run for the Orange and Black as they took a 30-25 lead with just under two minutes to go in the quarter while they took a 32-27 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter would be an offensive struggle for both sides as the two teams combined for just 16 points in 10 minutes, but a triple from Jenna Szostak gave Tech a 40-35 lead heading into the fourth. The Saints outscored the Warriors 25-15 in the final period though, holding off a furious comeback attempt by Tech in the final minute of the game, to hand the visitors their second straight loss. Following a 6-0 run that put Aquinas up 56-50 with 34 seconds to go, Kyra Whitaker would cut the deficit in half with three free throws, but a missed shot and a turnover on the Warriors next two possessions allowed the hosts to ice the game away at the free throw line.

Tech (24-3, 16-2 WHAC) returns to action on Monday, February 11 as they step out of conference play for the final time with a matchup against Wilberforce University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
