FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Lourdes University 90-73, on Wednesday evening inside the Schaefer Center in their home finale.
Dylan Phair scored a game-high 27 points on 10-14 shooting (7-9 from three-point range) while adding three rebounds and two assists.
Josh Kline chipped in 12 points and two blocks off the bench while
David Froedge had 11 points and three assists.
Edmond Early, Jr. added 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals while
Max Huber had nine points, nine rebounds and two assists.
The two sides struggled offensively through the three and a half minutes of the game with just four combined points, but Phair woke up the Warrior offense with 11 straight points, including three straight triples, to put Tech up 13-9 with 12:51 on the clock. A 10-0 run from Tech, with Kline and Froedge combining for all 10, put the Warriors ahead 23-14 and force at Lourdes timeout with 10:11 to play until the half. The Gray Wolves cut the deficit down to four points at three different junctures in the last 10 minutes of the opening period, but Tech took a 43-33 into the half.
The Orange and Black opened up the second half on a 8-0 run to grow the lead to 18 points thanks to back-to-back three-point plays from Early, one coming on a traditional triple while the other coming on the old-fashioned play. The Warriors lead grew up to 22 points with just under nine minutes to play in the game and while Lourdes cut the deficit down to 13 points with three and a half minutes left to go, Tech wouldn't let the lead get any closer as they completed the season sweep and finished their home slate with an 11-1 mark.
Tech (18-11, 14-5 WHAC) concludes the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Rochester College. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from Garth Pleasant Arena. The Warriors currently sit in third place in the conference standings, and can either finish second or third depending on Saturday's outcome along with the result of the Lourdes-Madonna game.
