McWilliams Collects 400th Career Win as Tech Splits with Lions

CORINTH, Miss. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team recorded a split on Saturday with No. 2-ranked Freed-Hardeman University at Corinth High School, winning 8-5 in game one before falling 7-4 in the nightcap. With the game one win, head coach Kip McWilliams picked up his 400th career victory.

Branson Dossen put the Warriors up 2-0 in the first with a monster shot to left field while Trevor MacDonald made it a 3-0 game one inning later as he drove in Jake DeFries following a one-out triple. The visitors extended their advantage to 7-0 in the third as they put up four runs in the inning with Jacob Alvidrez starting off the scoring with a double to plate Glen McClain.

The Lions made it a 7-4 game in the fourth as they reigning NAIA National Runner-Ups knocked in four runs in the inning off two walks, a hit batter and a bases-clearing triple. The Warriors bullpen tightened up after that though, Landon Bloir completed the three-inning save by allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out four.

Tech struck first again in game two as Kyle Harvey scored on a throwing error by FHU's right fielder. Dossen mashed his second homer of the day in the fourth to put the Warriors back up 2-1, but the Lions came right back with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 3-2.

A two-run error allowed the Orange and Black to retake the lead at 4-3 in the sixth, but a two-out grand slam by the Lions De'Miyke Holmes put the hosts up ahead for good as they limited Tech to just two base runners over the final three innings to hold off the sweep.

Tech (2-1) returns to action next weekend as they make a trip to the Volunteer State to take on No. 12-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan University. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. EST from Jack Bowling Field.
