Box Score 2 ATHENS, Tenn. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech baseball swept No. 12-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan University, 6-1, and 14-5, on Saturday afternoon in nonconference action at Jack Bowling Field.
Glen McClain got the Warriors started early with a two-run homer in the top of the first while
Jake DeFries knocked in
Jacob Alvidrez with two outs to extend the lead to 3-0 before the hosts had a chance to bat. That was more than enough run support for starter
Nate McBroom, who threw 6.1 innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits to pick up the victory.
Tech added runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh thanks to a
Reese Olden double, a bases-loaded walk to Alvidrez and a home run from DeFries.
Joe Pratt come on in relief for McBroom in the seventh and closed out the game without allowing a run.
The second game saw the Warriors jump out ahead in the top of the first thanks to an RBI single from
Branson Dossen, but the Bulldogs came right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to go up 2-1. Tech struck back with runs in the next five innings though, doing most of their damage in the fourth inning off a two-run homer from McClain before scoring five times with two outs in the sixth to make in an 11-2 game.
The hosts added three more runs to cut the deficit to 11-5, but a three-run ninth inning from the Orange and Black put the game away as they completed the sweep.
Sunday's game with TWU was cancelled due to weather conditions.
Tech (4-1) will return to action on Friday, February 22 as they travel to Joliet, Illinois for the USF Invitational, where they will take on Olivet Nazarene University and the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First pitch against ONU on Friday is set for 1 p.m. EST from Route 66 Stadium.
