FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play Saturday afternoon inside Warrior Athletic Field with a 17-9 victory over Concordia University (Mich.).
Chandler Peterson put the Warriors up 1-0 just 30 seconds into the game, but the Cardinals went ahead 2-1 with 3:43 left in the first quarter.
Ian Tyburski knotted the game up at 2-2 with 2:21 left in the period while Peterson notched his second goal of the game with 9:47 on the clock in the second quarter to give Tech a 3-2 lead. The two sides continued to battle it out through the rest of the half with the hosts taking a 6-5 lead into the intermission.
The Orange and Black found their rhythm on both sides of the field in the third quarter as they outscored the visitors 6-1, with Peterson finding the back of the cage twice more to make it a 12-6 contest. Tech continued to push their lead into the fourth as they caged the Cardinals to open up their conference slate with a win.
Peterson dished out two assists to finish with a team-high six points while
Noah Puckett had two goals and three assists. Tyburski,
Andrew Neller and
Jordan Reyes each grabbed seven ground balls with Neller going 23-28 in the face-off zone and Reyes causing six turnovers.
Evan Schuster made six saves to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Tech (6-1, 1-0 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, March 27 as they travel to the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Opening faceoff is set for 5 p.m. from the Legacy Center in Brighton, Michigan.
