Warriors Fall to Trojans in Midweek Clash

UPLAND, Ind. – The No. 16-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team fell to No. 20-ranked Taylor University, 9-7, on Wednesday evening in nonconference action at Gudakunst Field.

The Warriors had a chance to take an early lead in the top of the first, but left the bases loaded. Taylor counted by scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame on a pair of two-run homers that both came with two outs. A pair of RBI ground outs, an RBI single from Reese Olden and a RBI double from Branson Dossen made it a 5-4 game in the fifth, but the Trojans tacked on three more runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 9-4.

Tech scored three times in the top of the ninth to put the pressure on the hosts, and had the game-winning run up at the plate and the tying-run at second base with two outs, but Taylor was able to escape the jam and come away with the win. RBI singles from Christian De Los Santos and Jake DeFries sparked the rally but were not able to score more than one run in both at-bats.

DeFries and Ritson each finished with a team-best two hits while Trevor MacDonald scored twice.

Tech (16-10) returns to action on Friday as they travel to Lima, Ohio for a doubleheader against the University of Northwestern Ohio. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from the Racer Baseball Field.
