FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team defeated regional rival Grace College, 6-2, on Wednesday evening at Warrior Field.
Alex Vydick gave the Warriors the early lead with an RBI single in the second, but a two-run homer from the Lancers put them ahead in the fourth. Tech tied the game up at 2-2 in the sixth thanks to a balk from the Grace pitcher with runners at second and third, while Vydick put the hosts back up in the same at-bat with a single to left center.
The Orange and Black got an insurance run thanks to a
Jacob Alvidrez sacrifice fly in the seventh while a two-out two-RBI single from
Glen McClain made it a 6-2 lead in favor of the Warriors one inning later.
Lander Bloir picked up the win after going four strong innings in relief and did not allow a single hit while striking out a career-best eight batters, including three on nine pitches in the seventh.
Ben Lambert went five innings in his first start of the season, scattering two hits while striking out three in the no-decision.
Jake DeFries, McClain and
Branson Dossen all knocked out doubles with DeFries going 4-5 at the dish.
Tech (23-13) returns to conference action this Saturday as they travel up to Rochester College for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. from Bill Shinsky Field.
