Tech Sweeps Rochester Behind Late Offensive Outbursts

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team swept Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Rochester College on Saturday afternoon at Bill Shinsky Field, winning 11-3 and 12-1.

Rochester scored first in the opening frame of the twin bill, but that would be all they would get off starter Charles Dunavan, who scatted four hits across six innings of work while striking out 12 batters. Tech took advantage of an error in the fourth to tie the game up at 1-1 before Reese Olden knocked in Christian De Los Santos in the next inning to make it a 2-1 game.

A pair of runs in the sixth were followed up with a six-run seventh from the Orange and Black, who took advantage of two errors from the hosts as they extended their advantage to 10-1. Rochester scored twice in the eighth thanks to a one-out double, but that would be their one scoring threat as Tech sealed up the 11-3 win.

Seven different players recorded at least two hits for Tech while Spenser McGhee knocked in three runs.

The Warriors held a 4-1 lead heading into the ninth inning of game two before putting up an eight-spot in the inning to extend their lead to 12-1. A pair of two-RBI doubles from Cade McCoin and Glen McClain powered the Tech inning, with the latter coming with two outs in the inning.

Seth Sorensen did not allow a run to score in six innings of work and struck out five batters while scattering four hits. Dan Shaw struck out three over two innings in relief while Olden had a game-high three hits. McCoin drove in a career-best four runs.

Tech (25-13, 9-3 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Indiana University Kokomo for a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. from Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
