DETROIT – The Indiana Tech softball team snapped a five-game losing streak on Wednesday evening as they swept the University of Michigan-Dearborn in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Gary L. Brice Field, winning 4-0 and 8-1.
Tech took a 2-0 lead three batters into the game as
Emily Martin sent one over the left field wall to jump out on the hosts.
Kari LaFreniere made it a 3-0 game in the fourth with a solo shot while the Warrior took advantage of a Wolverine error one inning later to make it a 4-0 game.
The four runs was plenty for
Amanda Shonka, who went the distance in the circle and scattered five hits over seven innings.
Payton Robinson added a double while
Brianna Glass and Martin each had two hits.
The visitors took the early lead in the first inning of game two as
Ashley Alvey drew a bases loaded walk to score Glass while an error with the bases loaded allowed the Orange and Black to score two more runs one inning later.
Ashley Alvey drove in LaFreniere with a double in the fourth and came around to score on a wild pitch two batters later.
Alvey and LaFreniere would drive in the final three runs for the Warriors while Glass knocked out a team-best three hits. Martin and Alvey each recorded two RBI's while Alvey threw 3.2 innings in relief to pick up the win.
Tech (16-22, 8-9 WHAC) returns to action on Friday as they host Trinity Christian College in a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Warrior Park.
