GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 5-seeded Indiana Tech women's tennis team defeated No. 4-seeded Cornerstone University in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament on Thursday evening at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club with a 5-2 victory. It is the first time in program history that the team has won a match in the conference tournament and it is the first time in program history that the Warriors have advanced to the conference semifinals.
Tech took a 2-1 lead in doubles action as the first flight of
Vero Jimenez and
Dominique Michelet won 8-0 while the second flight of
Martina Borges and
Elena Tokic won 8-4.
Michelet continued her dominant play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three singles while
Joselyne Bobos put the Warriors at match point with a 6-, 6-2 win at sixth flight. Borges clinched the match with a straight set 6-0, 6-3 win at number two singles.
Tech (7-11) takes its five-match winning streak in the WHAC Tournament Semifinals against No. 1-seeded University of Northwestern Ohio on Tuesday, April 23. Start time is TBA at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.
