Peterson’s Career Day Leads Tech in Rout of Saints, WHAC Title

ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team captured the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) title for the second time in program history Saturday morning as they defeated No. 9-ranked Siena Heights University, 20-8, at O'Laughlin Stadium.

Tech finished atop the WHAC standings with Aquinas College and will be the number one seed in the WHAC Tournament thanks to their win over the Saints earlier this month.

The Warriors came out strong to begin the game as they scored three times in the first five minutes to take the early lead. Chandler Peterson notched a hat trick with 1:45 remaining in the first quarter and added two more in the second to help the Orange and Black take an 8-3 lead into the locker room at the half.

After the Saints scored twice in less than a minute seven minutes into the third quarter, the visitors went on to score eight straight goals as part of a 9-1 run to end the half. Peterson carried the scoring load as he scored six times in the last 4:30 of the period, including one with two seconds left to give the Warriors an 18-6 lead.

Peterson scored his 13th goal on the game 62 seconds into the fourth to put him within a goal of tying the program record for most goals in a game set back in 2017 by former standout Jace Childs.

Noah Puckett added a hat trick and five assists while Ian Tyburski went 11-12 in the faceoff zone and picked up 12 ground balls. Andrew Neller went 14-20 in the x and added 10 ground balls. Evan Schuster made seven saves in the cage to improve to 13-3 on the season.

Tech now awaits the winner of fourth-seeded Madonna and fifth-seeded Siena Heights in the WHAC Tournament Semifinals, schedules for Thursday, April 25. Opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
