FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's tennis team made program history Saturday afternoon as they defeated Lawrence Tech, 5-1, in the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament at Wildwood Racquet Club to advance to the conference championship match for the first time in program history.
The Warriors took a 2-1 lead after doubles action thanks to an 8-4 win at second flight from Rui Lima and
Alvaro Garrido and an 8-1 victory at third flight from
Alvaro Gomez and
Andres Leal.
Lima picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at number five singles while Garrido put the hosts at match point with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the number four spot.
Brunno Storani clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the number two position.
Tech (13-10) awaits the winner the No. 1-seeded University of Northwestern Ohio and No. 4-seeded Cornerstone University in the WHAC Tournament Championship, which will take place on Saturday, April 27 at the higher seed.
