Warriors Sweep Foresters To Run Win Streak to Seven

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team extended its winning streak to seven games on Wednesday afternoon as they swept regional foe Huntington University, 13-5 (F/7) and 4-0 at Warrior Park.

The Foresters came out of the gates with two runs in the top of the first as they took advantage of a pair of Tech errors, but the Warriors came right back with two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game up at 2-2. A throwing error from the visitors allowed Tech to take a 3-2 lead in the second, but a two-out two-RBI single from Huntington put them back up 5-3 in the third.

The Orange and Black took advantage of two HU errors in the bottom of the third while cranking out five hits and sending 11 batters up to the plate and pushing six runs across to take a 9-5 lead. Sarah Cummings knotted the game up at 5-5 with a two-RBI double while a fielder's choice RBI sacrifice bunt and a throwing error from Huntington allowed the hosts to take a 7-5 lead. Nicolle Sierra mashed a double to left center to score Ashley Alvey while a bunt single from Brianna Glass allowed Abigail Zwicker to score.

Five straight hits after a 1-4-3 putout to begin the fifth led to four more runs for Tech as they reached the eight-run minimum for the mercy rule and ended the game. Glass doubled home Sierra and Jaden Romero while Ali LeNoue and Emily Martin followed up with two more doubles to complete the victory.

Jaden Romero picked up the win after going 2.1 innings in relief and allowed just one hit while striking out three. Glass finished the game 3-4 with two RBI and two runs while Cummings, Romero and Sierra all had two hits.

A single from LeNoue and a double from Martin drove in the first two Warrior runs in the third inning of game two while a sacrifice fly from the former and a Forester error allowed two more runs to score for the hosts.

The four runs would be plenty of offense for Ashley Alvey, who allowed just one hit in five innings of work to improve to 7-2 on the season. LeNoue and Glass both tacked on two more hits, while Glass swiped four bases over the twin bill to move her season total to 71 and just nine back of trying the NAIA national record.

Tech (21-22) returns to action on Friday as they host Lourdes University. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. from Warrior Park.
