WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 23-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team defeated Lyon College, 8-3, in the opening game of the Williamsburg Bracket on Monday afternoon in the 2019 NAIA Opening Round at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
The Scots came out of the gates firing as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Warriors in the top of the first, using three hits and two hit batters to score all three runs with two outs in the inning. Tech had their own two-out rally in the fourth as Spencer McGhee and
Javier Castaneda reached with two outs and came around to score on back-to-back singles from
Jake Ritson and
Jashaun Simon to cut the deficit to 3-2.
McGhee would tie the game up in the next inning with a two-out single while an errant throw from the Scots' second baseman allowed
Branson Dossen to come home as well and put the Orange and Black up 4-3. Ritson broke the game up in the seventh with a two-out double to clear the bases while
Landon Bloir kept Lyon's hitters off-balance after coming on in relief in the second inning, allowing just three hits in 7.1 innings of work to pick up the win.
Ritson finished the game with four RBI after going 3-4 at the dish while
Reese Olden went 3-4 with two runs.
Tech (39-14-1) awaits the winner of Baker University and the University of the Cumberlands, who play Monday night. The Warriors next game will be on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. from Doyle Buhl Stadium.
