FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team opened up the 2019 season Friday evening with a resounding 3-0 over Governors State University inside Warrior Athletic Field.
The Warriors controlled the action early and often as
Elaina Monroe hit the crossbar 43 seconds into the game to set the tone.
Lily Rothert scored the first goal of the season in the 24
th minute off the cross into the box from
Bailey Elliott while
Kayla Saffran made it 2-0 under a minute later.
Tech continued to push the pace in the second half as they outshot the Jaguars 18-2 (13-1 in shots on frame) and added their third goal of the game in the 61
st minute as
Megan Clifton's corralled a rebound and pushed it across a couple of defenders for her first collegiate goal.
Ally Zenda made one save while Monroe earned the assist on Saffran's goal.
Tech (1-0-0) returns to action on Wednesday, August 28 as they make the short trip to Spring Street to take on their crosstown rival University of Saint Francis. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
