MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's tennis team went 1-1 this weekend at the Indiana Wesleyan Fall Invitational, falling to the host Wildcats, 4-0, on Thursday before defeating Judson University 4-0 on Friday morning. Friday evening's match with Indiana University Southeast was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up in the spring, while Saturday's home match with Taylor University was canceled due to the threat of weather.
The Warrior ran into a buzz saw on Thursday afternoon as the No. 9-ranked team in the nation dropped just three games across doubles action to take an early 1-0 lead. The Wildcats then took three straight sets matches to clinch the victory to hand Tech its first loss of the year.
The results were much better for the Orange and Black Friday morning as they rolled through doubles play against Judson to gain the early momentum before winning three quick singles matches to pick up the win.
Vero Jimenez and
Chloe Smithley won 6-0 at third flight while the former won 6-0, 6-2 and the latter got a double bagel at second and sixth position, respectively.
Tech (4-1) concludes its fall slate on Saturday, October 5 as they host Indiana University East in a Homecoming match. First serve is set for 12 p.m. from Swinney Tennis Center.
