LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball fell in their final road contest of the weekend on Saturday afternoon to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival Madonna University, dropping the match 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25), inside the Activities Center.
Down 12-8 early in the opening set, the Warriors utilized a 9-1 run, featuring a trio of kills from
Emma Westra, to put them ahead of their hosts 17-13. The Crusaders crawled back into the set, staying just one step behind Tech, 20-19. With a score knotted at 24-24, Madonna would grab the last two points to earn a 26-24 advantage.
After seizing a 10-7 early lead from the Crusaders, the Warriors continued to build their lead with a 15-7 midway score. They kept their opponents just out of reach, taking a 22-17 lead on back-to-back
Olivia Niekamp kills.
Jordan Aylward put the exclamation point on the set to knot the match at 1-1 with the 25-19 set score.
Both teams shared the lead through the early portion of frame three before Madonna jumped ahead 14-8. Their lead would continually grow but the Orange and Black would work to gradually chip away, finding themselves down just three, 21-18. Their run would fall short to the Crusader's 25-18 final set score.
The fourth set would see both teams locked together in a tight contest. Tied at 17-17, the Warriors would find themselves on a 4-0 run to get ahead 21-19 late. Madonna would find their way ahead by just one, 24-22, before they would ultimately seal the match with a 25-23 decision.
Madison Park led the Warriors with 24 assists while
Madeline MacDonald recorded 24 digs.
Jordan Aylward concluded the contest with 12 kills while
Calista Helinski finished with 11 and Niekamp with 10.
The Orange and Black will continue road play with a Wednesday evening contest in Ann Arbor, Michigan as they take on Concordia University (Mich.). First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Concordia Field House.
