SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team fell just short of a win over No. 13-ranked Lourdes University, falling 73-72 Saturday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Dilyn Good had a career-high 23 points off the bench on 8-11 shooting, including 7-10 from three-point range while grabbing six rebounds.
Mitch Morken added 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals while
Josh Kline had 13 points and five rebounds.
Jeremy Davison had 12 points and three rebounds.
Fast forward to the second half as Lourdes led 33-32 and the battle between the top two teams in the WHAC was living up to its billing. Neither side lead by more than eight points in the first 20 minutes of action and the matchup was going to go down to the wire. The Gray Wolves grew their lead back up to eight points at 45-37 with 16:22 to go, but a triple from Good started a 23-5 run for the Warriors that was capped by another triple from Good to make it a 60-50 Tech lead and 6:30 to play. The Orange and Black held the hosts scoreless for over six minutes of action during the spurt.
Tech continued to hold a sizeable advantage as the game entered the home stretch, with a three from Good and a pair of free throws from Kline making it a 70-57 lead and 2:10 left on the clock. The Gray Wolves caught fire immediately after that though, with Kenny Coleman converting a four-point play to put the momentum back on Lourdes side. Coleman would hit another three and sink two more three throws to bring Lourdes with four points at 70-66 and 90 seconds left to play. Davison sank a pair of free throws to grow the lead back up to six points, but that would be the final time Tech would see the ball go in the basket as Lourdes went on a 7-0 run over the final 66 seconds of the contest, with Little Anderson making two free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining to give the Gray Wolves and win and sole possession of first place in the conference.
Tech (12-9, 8-3 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, January 22 as they start a three-game homestand by hosting Rochester University. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center in what will be the first of two games as part of Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week.
