Tech Holds Off Gray Wolves for Fifth Straight Win

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The No. 13-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Lourdes University, 66-56, Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.

Kyra Whitaker had a game-high 21 points, going 10-10 from the free throw line, with five rebounds and two assists. Erika Foy added 14 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and steals off the bench while Emma Wolfe chipped in 11 points and two rebounds. DeAnn Kauffman had nine points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals while Rachel Bell had six assists and five rebounds.

The Warriors found themselves in a dog fight during the first quarter, with neither side getting out to more than a seven-point lead while exchanging the lead six times. Lourdes combined a 7-0 with a 3:54 scoring drought from Tech to build a 22-15 lead late in the period, but the visitors were able to cut the deficit to 24-20 at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter was all Tech as they outscored the hosts 16-3 and used an 11-0 run to end the half leading 36-27. The Warriors held Lourdes scoreless for the final 4:51 of the period while forcing four turnovers.

An 8-0 run for the Warriors to begin the third quarter pushed their lead to 43-31 at the halfway point of the period, but a 10-2 run from the Gray Wolves pulled them to within 46-41 as the buzzer sounds on the third 10-minute session.

Lourdes started the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run to pull within a point, but the Warriors responded with an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to extend the advantage to 56-47 with 6:35 left in the game. The Gray Wolves were able to chip the deficit down to five points with just under three minutes on the clock, but were never able to get any closer and scored just three more points over the final two minutes of the contest while the Warriors went 6-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to ice the game.

Tech (16-4, 10-1 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday as they start a four-game home stand against Rochester University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center in the first of two games for Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week.
