FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team kept marching Wednesday evening as they defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival Cornerstone University, 104-56, inside the Schaefer Center for their eighth straight win.
Rachel Bell became the program's all-time leader in career assists as she dished out 11 on the night to pass 2016 graduate
Rayana Villalpando and now has 532 dimes in four seasons. She added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals while notching her fourth double-double of the season and now has 160 assists on the year, just 10 shy of her single season record.
DeAnn Kauffman continued her torrid shooting stretch as she scored a game-high 26 points while adding five rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Emma Wolfe added 16 points while
Erika Foy chipped in 14 points in 11 minutes of action off the bench.
The first 10 minutes saw a bevy of offensive action as both teams shot over 60% from the floor, with the Warriors going 13-18 (72.2%) from the field to garner a 27-19 lead at the break thanks to a 24-8 advantage in the paint and 11 points off turnovers. Tech started off the game on a 13-2 run through the first four minutes of the contest, but the Golden Eagles battled back to cut the lead back down to six to keep in the game.
The Orange and Black left no doubt who was in control of the game in the second quarter thanks to a 24-4 stretch that gave them a 51-23 lead at the half. Cornerstone shot just 18.2% from the field during the period thanks to a stifling Tech defense. The hosts continued to pound the ball inside as the outscored the visitors 12-0 in the paint, with Kauffman scoring eight points to lead the team. A 16-0 run during the middle of the quarter gave the Warriors a 49-21 lead and put any thoughts of an upset to bed.
Tech continued to click on all cylinders during the second half as they went 22-36 from the field while limiting the Golden Eagles to just 12-37 shooting. Kauffman added 10 more points in the third quarter alone while Bell passed Villalpando with a pass that led to a Foy jumper before setting up
Kelsey Ivers for a triple on their next possession to leave no doubt on the Warriors all-time leader in assists.
Tech (19-4, 13-1 WHAC) returns to action Friday as they close out their nonconference scheduled with a matchup against Miami University – Hamilton. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
