Warriors Lap Racers in Three-Point Outburst

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 11-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team used a fast start and hot shooting to defeat the University of Northwestern Ohio, 110-53, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Saturday afternoon inside the Schaefer Center.

Emma Wolfe led all scorers with a career-high 29 points on 10-12 shooting and went 9-11 from the three-point line, tying the program and WHAC single game record for triples in a game (Haley Cook, Jan. 10, 2018), while the Warriors hit 21 three's in all. Kyra Whitaker had 18 points on 6-11 shooting from behind the arc with five assists and three steals while Emma Tuominen had 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Alexis Hill tallied 10 points, five assists and three steals while DeAnn Kauffman had nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. The team tied the conference record for field goal percentage (67.2%) and set a new record for three pointers made in a game.

Tech started the game off on a historically hot pace by hitting their first 12 shots of the game and not missing their first shot until 2:04 mark of the first quarter while limiting the Racers to just 4-13 shooting during the period. The Warriors began the game on a 28-2 run and led 35-9 at the end of the first. Whitaker finished the quarter with 12 points on 4-5 shooting while Wolfe hit two shots from behind the arc in the first 10 minutes of the game.

While the Warriors missed two shots in the first three minutes of the second quarter to match their total misfires from the first, it didn't slow them down as they continued to build their lead over the Racers, stretching it to as many as 32 points in the quarter and led 57-25 at the half.

Wolfe took over in the third quarter as the senior went 4-6 from downtown for a team-best 12 points in the period as the Orange and Black grew their lead up to 43 points. The Bishop Luers graduate hit her ninth triple of the game with 9:19 to play in the fourth quarter to tie the record set by the three-time All-American Cook while the Warriors advantage grew to as many as 57 points while setting a new season-high for points in a game.

Tech (12-4, 6-1 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, January 8 as they head to Grand Rapids, Michigan for a matchup with Aquinas College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.
