Women's Volleyball Remains Undefeated and Extends Win Streak to 5

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After two matches today, Indiana Tech women's volleyball remains undefeated in the conference and extends their win streak to five with a 3-0 win over Rochester and a 3-1 win over Saint Francis (Ill.).

The Warriors started the day off strong with a sweep of conference foe Rochester not allowing the Red and Black more than 17 points in a set. In the first set, Tech went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-7 lead. Rochester had a tough push of seven straight points to get within six (22-16) but was unable to recover and dropped the first set.

The second set was similar with Tech having a 4-0 and 6-0 run back-to-back to take a ten-point lead (19-9). The Red and Black responded with a 6-0 run themselves, but Tech stole back the momentum and won the second set 25-17. Rochester scored the first point of the third set, but never regained the lead as the Orange and Black kept the momentum and won the third set 25-15 and the match 3-0.

Emma Westra led Tech with 10 kills with a .391 hitting percentage while Olivia Niekamp recorded eight kills. Andrea Schriver led the team in assists with 16 and earned her first career double-double with ten digs. Genna Karbowski added 12 assists, one kill and three digs. Jacey Blust earned 18 digs while Katrina Reynolds contributed 15.

In the match against Saint Francis (Ill.), the Warriors started by scoring the first three points of the first set. The Fighting Saints responded to tie the game at five apiece only for the set to be tied two more times at 10-10 and 11-11. Tech tied it at 11 when they stopped a 5-0 run by the Fighting Saints. The two teams traded 3-0 runs, but the Warriors were never able to get within less than two points and fell in the first set 25-19.

The second set started strong for Tech taking a 7-4 lead with the seventh point marking Niekamp's 1000th career kill. Tech later led 17-10 before the Fighting Saints slowly started to make their comeback. A 5-0 run by Saint Francis (Ill.) got the Fighting Saints within two of the Warriors (23-21). Tech stopped the run only for Saint Francis to tie the set at 24-24 with a 3-0 run. The set was then tied seven more times before Tech could score two in a row to win the second set 33-31.

In the third set, Tech was down 7-4 and fought back to tie the set at seven before the set was tied four more times. Tech went on a 4-0 run to take a 15-12 lead only to have the Fighting Saints respond with three points to tie the set at 15. The set was tied three more times before the Warriors scored three-straight to take a 24-20 lead and then finished the job to win the third set 25-21.

Tech scored the first three points of the fourth set only to have Saint Francis answered with a 6-0 run. The Fighting Saints kept the lead while Tech tied it up three times before they took the lead with a 4-0 run to lead 20-17. Another 4-0 run brought Tech to a 24-19 lead and they finished the set 25-20 and ended the day with two wins.

Calista Helinski led the Warriors with 13 kills while Westra added 11. Schriver added another double-double to the day with 23 assists and 11 digs while Karbowski notched 12 assists, one kill and six digs. Blust led once again with 24 digs while Reynolds added 11.

Indiana Tech is back on their home court Wednesday, October 21st when they host conference rival Concordia (Mich.) at 7 p.m.
