FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech men's hockey starts their season with a 3-2 victory over Iowa State.
Tech scored the first goal at the 9:01 minute mark when
Alex Arnold and
Bobby Frieson connected to hand
Cole Barney his first goal of the 2020-21 season and give the Warriors a 1-0 lead early.
The Orange and Black struck again early in the second quarter when
Alex Potter fed
Filip Schultz to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0. Less than a minute later the Warriors found the back of the net again, this time
Potter scored the goal from
Barney to put Tech up 3-0 early in the second period.
The Cyclones did not give up and scored toward the end of the second to get within two of the Warriors before the break. Iowa State turned up their defense and held the Warriors scoreless in the third period and connected with the back of the net with just over two minutes left in the third period to make the score 3-2. Despite scrambling at the end, the Cyclones weren't able to secure the puck and the Warriors earned their first win 3-2.
The Warriors outshot the Cyclones 28-20 and recorded 16 blocks. Tech went 29-68 on faceoffs while Iowa State was 39-68.
Bryson Linenburg took his first win in the net with 18 saves while
Greg Moon of the Cyclones recorded 25 saves in the loss.
The Warriors are back in action tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. for another faceoff with Iowa State at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
