Warriors Surge in Second Half to Down Cougars

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team used another strong second half to beat its second Cougar team in two weeks as they defeated Saint Xavier University, 90-77, Saturday afternoon inside Mol Arena in the Cornerstone Classic.
 
Rog Stein had a game-high 26 points on 12-16 shooting while grabbing six rebounds. Josh Kline had 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks while Jeremy Luciani had 13 points and five rebounds off the bench. Cory McKinney scored 11 points and dished out 11 assists for his first career double-double while Jeremy Davison had 11 points.
 
Saint Xavier raced out to an 11-7 lead three and a half minutes into the game, but Tech battled back with a 13-9 run to tie the game up at 20-20 with 12:23 to play in the first half. The Warriors took their first lead of the game on their next possession following a Kline bucket in the paint. The two teams traded baskets and leads over the next six minutes until a 9-0 run from Saint Xavier put them up 37-29. The Cougars extended their lead to as many as nine points with 2:59 remaining in the half. The Warriors appeared to be heading into the locker room trailing by just three points, but a triple at the buzzer by Charles Campbell, Jr. gave Saint Xavier a 47-41 lead.
 
Tech started off the second half on an 8-0 run with back-to-back triples from McKinney and Davison tying the game up while a layup from Kline put the Warriors up 49-47 at the 15:53 mark. The battle for the upper hand in the contest continued over the next four minutes with the Warriors taking the lead for good with 10:58 to go in the game following a layup from Luciani that sparked an 8-0 run to put Tech up 69-62 at the 9:37 mark. The Orange and Black extended their lead into double digits with eight minutes to play following a triple from Luciani and the Cougars were never able to get the deficit back to single digits again as the Warriors ended up with the 90-77 win.
 
Tech (2-1) returns to action on Wednesday, November 11 as they open up their home schedule with a visit from the University of Saint Francis. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
