FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team wrapped up the fall portion of their 2020-21 schedule Saturday afternoon inside Warrior Athletic Field as they defeated the University of the Cumberlands 1-0. The shutout was the third of the fall for the Warriors, who allowed just one goal in 360 minutes of action this semester.
The matchup of two teams that qualified for the NAIA National Championship a season ago lived up to the hype, with just 20 combined shots and 10 shots on goal being recorded. The Patriots, making their season debut, recorded just one shot in the first half as the two teams battled to a scoreless halftime.
UC had a pair of chances to take the lead early in the second half, but were turned away from sophomore keeper
Jaume Salvado.
Noe Garcia worked his offensive wizardry in the 57
th minute as the 2019 All-American and WHAC Offensive Player of the Year stole the ball from a Patriot defender and put the ball into the net with a great strike from the top of the box.
The visitors came right back with an opportunity a minute later but were stopped by Salvado again, who finished the match with four saves, and that would be the last chance on net the Patriots would get as the Warriors completed the shutout. Garcia and
Malte Dennert each recorded two shots on goal.
Tech concludes the fall slate with a 4-0-0 mark and will complete the remainder of the schedule, including the rest of the conference season, conference tournament and NAIA National Championship, in the spring.
