FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball fell in the finale of their weekend home slate Saturday afternoon to Judson University, dropping the match 3-1 (23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 22-25) inside the Schaefer Center.
An early swapping of the lead kicked off the opening set before Judson went on a 4-0 run to lead 12-9. The Warriors would answer back with a 5-0 run of their own behind four kills from
Dante Siracusa,
Mason Milan and
Cameron Ternent. Tech would continue to draw closer to taking the opening set after running ahead 20-16 after a
Cameron Ternent ace. The Eagles came to life late in the set. Showing they were not done yet, they tied the score at 22-22 in part of a 5-0 run. Down to set point, Judson would gain the 1-0 lead off a kill from Brian Robinson.
The Eagles carried their hot streak into the second frame, as they would find themselves on a 7-1 run early.
Daynte Stewart would help bring Tech back into the match with a pair of kills to push a 7-8 score. Judson did not skip a beat getting back into the match. Finding themselves down 16-9, the Orange and Black needed an answer to slow down their opponents. A string of errors and two kills from Milan would put Tech back to within three. Ultimately, it would be the Eagles who would control the back half of the second set, coming out with a 25-17 decision.
Down 2-0 and needing a hold, the Warriors came out in set three on an 8-1 run. Through much of the early half, they managed to hold their opponents to just eleven points, en route to a 17-11 advantage. The Stewart-Milan duo would prove to be the spark the Orange and Black would need to say alive in the match.
Chase Christiansen would help to close the door on a 25-19 third set victory with a kill.
In need of another hold, Judson opened their decision set holding Tech to only five early points, 10-5. The Eagles forced the Warriors to play a continual game of keep-up before Tech would tie things at 15-15 and eventually grab the 17-16 lead. A 5-0 run would help the Eagles to claw ahead 23-20 before taking a 25-22 set victory and 3-1 match decision.
Stewart and
Chandler Davis finished their nights with match-leading performances consisting of 16 kills and 33 assists respectively.
Joey Hermes concluded the contest with 20 digs.
The Orange and Black will head to Oskaloosa, Iowa for the WPU Quad, hosted by William Penn University, as they face the University of Jamestown on Friday, February 7 at 8 p.m. ET.
