Warriors Grind Out Win at Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated Lawrence Technological University, 53-41, Wednesday evening in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Don Ridler Field House.

Lucas Lehrman had a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds while Mitch Morken had 12 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocks for his fifth double-double of the season. Cory McKinney chipped in 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals while Max Huber had seven rebounds and seven assists.

In a game that struggled to get an offensive rhythm, the first points of the game weren't scored until 2:07 into the contest by the Blue Devils, but the Warriors responded with a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to take the lead. A 6-0 spurt from Tech pushed their lead to 13-4 while the held LTU on nearly a seven-minute scoring drought. The host defense was just as stingy though, holding the visitors scoreless for a three-minute stretch as both sides struggled to get the ball into the basket. A layup from Lehrman made it a 15-5 game in favor of the Orange and Black with 7:39 to go in the first half and the Warriors took a 21-16 lead into the locker room.

Huber led off the second half with a dunk to ignite the visiting bench, but the Blue Devils would keep the deficit in single digits for the first six minutes of the period. A fast break layup from Morken made it a 32-22 game with 14:31 to go in the contest, but LTU battled back to make it a four-point game at 38-34 with 7:39 on the clock. A triple from Dilyn Good sparked an 8-0 run for the Orange and Black to push their lead to 51-36 and 2:49 remaining in the game. The Warrior defense did not allow the advantage to shrink back to single digits and closed out the game strong with the 53-41 win, that, coupled with a loss by Lourdes University to Cornerstone University, moved Tech into sole possession of first place in the WHAC and just three games remaining in the regular season.

Tech (17-10, 13-4 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host Concordia University for their first home game of the month. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
