Warriors Take Down No. 23 Phoenix

LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's tennis defeated No. 23-ranked Cumberland University, 4-3, Saturday afternoon inside the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

"I'm really proud of our women today," head coach Brock Orlowski said. "They played a gutsy match and rallied from being down 3-0 to pulling off the upset. They kept grinding and fighting and found a way to win in the end."

The match did not start off great for the Warriors as they lost the doubles point to the Phoenix, with just the second flight of Abigail Simms and Carolina Fabbri winning their match, 6-3, and dropping the first two singles matches to find themselves in a 3-0 hole.

Martina Borges got Tech on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number three while Dominique Michelet won 7-6 (4), 6-1 at fourth flight to bring the Warriors within a point. Fabbri split sets and number five but came away with the 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win to knot the match up at 3-3, leaving the question of who would win in the court of the number six matchup between Carly Earnhardt and Elena Tokic.

After dropping the opening set 6-3, Tokic came back to win the second set 6-4 and then dominated the third set 6-1 to complete the comeback and give the Warriors their first win over a ranked program in school history.

Tech (6-2) returns to action on Saturday, February 29 as they begin conference action against Aquinas on the road. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from MVP Sportsplex.
