Warriors Drop Weekend Finale to Bulldogs

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team fell to No. 1-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan University, 15-7, Sunday afternoon at Dobyns Bennett High School.

Mike Snyder continued his torrid stretch over the weekend by going 2-4 with a three-run homer, his third of the young season, while Yeshua Saint went 2-4 as well and drove in one run. Alex Vydick went 2-3 with one run while Reese Olden and Jashaun Simon also drove in one run each.

The Bulldogs jumped all over the Warriors in the bottom of the first as they put up three runs on two hits while taking advantage of one walk and one Tech error, with all three of the runs coming with two outs and counting as unearned runs. Tennessee Wesleyan added to their lead in the second as seven more runs crossed the plate to make it a 10-0 game. TWU had seven hits in the game, with one homer, one double and one triple contributing to the damage in the inning.

Tech came back with a six-spot in the fifth inning that was powered by six hits. Simon got the Orange and Black on the scoreboard with a double down the right field line to score Jake Ritson while Vydick scored on an RBI groundout by Saint to make it an 11-2 game. Back-to-back RBI hits from Reese Olden and Spencer McGhee tacked on two more runs before Snyder blasted one over the right field fence to make it an 11-6 game.

The hosts took advantage of three Tech errors in the bottom of the frame to score three more runs though, as they increased their lead to 14-6 and were never threatened again to get revenge after suffering their first loss of the young season to Tech on Saturday.

Tech (1-2) returns to action on Saturday as they start a four-game series at the University of Rio Grande. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from Bob Evans Baseball Field.
