Tech Drops Pair to Patriots, Eagles

EMERSON, Ga. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team suffered a pair of losses to southern foes Tuesday afternoon at the Lake Point Sports Baseball Complex, falling to No. 11-ranked University of the Cumberlands, 4-2, and Reinhardt University, 13-4.

Spenser McGhee and Jake Ritson both notched a pair of hits in the Cumberlands game while Yeshua Saint and Ashtin Moxey drove in the two Tech runs, with the latter banging out a double. McGhee took the loss after going 5.1 innings on the mound, allowing three runs over 88 pitches.

Saint drove in Ritson in the third with a single to put the Warriors on top 1-0 while Moxey drove in Christian De Los Santos with a double in the sixth to make it a 2-0 game. The Patriots came storming back with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning though, to take a 3-2 lead. A leadoff walk to Pedro Nazario results in the Patriots first run of the game three batters later as Andres Rolon knocked in two runs with a single to left center. UC took the lead on an RBI groundout and tacked on another run one inning later to make it a 4-2 game. The Orange and Black had the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs following a pair of walks, but the Patriots got a ground ball to get the force at third and come away with the win.

McGhee tacked on two more hits against Reinhardt along with Jacob Daftari, who drove in two runs with a home run. Moxey also sent one over the wall while Tyler Stacy went 4.2 innings in the start, allowing two runs on six hits.

Daftari sent a two-run homer over the left field wall on the first pitch he saw with one out in the fourth one batter after Christian De Los Santos drove in Daniel Johnson II with an RBI ground out. The Eagles came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but Moxey restored the two-run lead in the seventh with a long ball.

Reinhardt took advantage of three walks and two doubles in the bottom of the seventh though that powered them to seven runs to put them ahead 9-4. The hosts took advantage of four more hits that led to four more runs one inning later to cap the scoring and send the Warriors to their third straight loss.

Tech (10-5) returns to action Wednesday as they take on Viterbo University at Lake Point Sports Baseball Complex. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
