THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech baseball team split a doubleheader with Thomas University Sunday afternoon, winning the opener 12-4 before falling in the nightcap, 16-3, at Varnedoe Stadium.
Manuel Ascanio went 3-4 at the dish with a double three RBI's while
Yeshua Saint was 2-5 with a double and two RBI's and a run. Six other Warriors drove in a run while
Mike Snyder,
Ashtin Moxey and
Jake Ritson all recorded doubles.
Christian De Los Santos legged out a triple while
Landon Bloir picked up the win in relief after going 4.2 innings on the hill.
Saint got the Warriors on the board first with an RBI single in the third, but the Night Hawks came back with runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-1 lead. A pair of two-out runs in the seventh put the hosts up 4-1, but Tech gave themselves a chance to pull out the win as they scored two runs in the eighth to make it a 4-3 game.
A one-out double from Moxey started a nine-run ninth inning for Tech. Ascanio drove in two runs with a single to make it a 6-4 game while a double from Snyder pushed the lead to 10-4 as the Warriors won their ninth straight game.
Thomas jumped all over the Warriors in the second game, scoring four times in the first and then tacking on three more in the second. A two-run homer from Snyder made it a 7-3 game in the third, but it would not be enough as the Night Hawks added nine more runs in the sixth to avoid the sweep.
Tech (10-3) returns to action on Tuesday, March 10 as they take on No. 11-ranked University of the Cumberlands in a rematch of last year's NAIA Opening Round – Williamsburg Bracket Championship. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. form Ken White Baseball Field on the campus of Reinhart University.
