FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women's volleyball team did not start out their season as they had hoped when Taylor swept the Warriors 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-19), on Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup.
Olivia Niekamp led the Warriors with seven kills while
Andrea Schriver made her college debut with eight assists along with
Genna Karbowski who added eight as well to lead the team. Tech had both
Madysn Cardinal and
Jacey Blust record seven digs to lead the Warriors.
The first set started off with back-and-forth action before the Trojans stole momentum and scored five-straight points before earning a 6-0 run to put the Warriors down 14-3. The Orange and Black fought back and scored five points to get within seven only for Taylor to string together five points shortly after to take a 22-10 lead. The Warriors were only able to produce two more points in the set and dropped the first 25-12.
Tech scored the first point of the second set before the Trojans went on an 8-0 spirt. The Warriors regrouped and did not allow Taylor to score more than two-points consecutively while the Orange and Black battled there way back into the set at 15-9. Tech put three points together with kills from
Calista Helinski and
Niekamp to put the Warriors within five (17-12). The two teams traded points before the Trojans answered with three -straight while the Orange and Black couldn't get past 16 points and Taylor won the second set 25-16.
Madelyn Omo kicked off the third set with a kill only to be answered by a 6-0 run by Taylor. After the Trojans took a 9-3 lead, two service aces by
Blust gave Tech a second wind to put them within four (10-6). The Warriors were able to stay within four or five points of the Trojans the remainder of the set, but were never able to get any closer and ultimately Taylor took the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
The Warriors are back on the court on October 7
th when they travel to Concordia University for their first conference match of the year at 7 p.m.
