ELGIN, Ill. – Indiana Tech women's volleyball opened the 2021 season on the road at Judson University where the Warriors extended their win-streak to seven with a 3-1 victory.
Tech opened the first set with the first two points before the Eagles got on the board. The two teams traded points until Judson tallied five straight points to take a 9-6 lead. The Warriors answered with three points to tie the set 9-9. After one point for the Eagles,
Calista Helinski and
Havilyn Cummings each recorded kills to put the Warriors ahead 12-10. Back-and-forth action began again before
Alexia Durnell and
Andrea Schriver combined to start a three-point rally for Tech to go ahead 21-15. Judson did not give up and answered with three points of their own to get within three (21-18) before the Warriors took over and scored the final four points of the set to win the first set 25-18.
Helinski scored the first point of the second set before the Eagles kicked it up a notch and went on a 5-0 run to lead 5-2. A service error gave Tech a point before Judson had another 5-0 rally to lead 11-3.
Schriver and
Amaya Anderson connected for the Warriors to stop the run and begin the two teams trading points. The Eagles were up 21-16 when they rallied for the final four to win the second set 25-16.
For the third set,
Anderson scored the first point before the Eagles recorded two. The Warriors answered with four straight points to lead 5-2. Tech kept their lead throughout the back-and-forth action and later scored three in a row to secure a five-point lead (11-6). The Eagles responded with three points to get within two (12-10) before the Warriors secured the serve and four points to lead 17-11. Neither team could rally for more than two points until Tech rallied for the final four points to win the third set 25-16.
Judson scored the first point of the fourth set to start the back-and-forth points until the Warriors were able to score four in a row to lead 7-4. Tech kept their lead with each time scoring two points apiece until the Eagles gained momentum and scored five straight to tie the match at 16 apiece. The match was then tied seven more times before the Warriors were able to score two in a row and take the 29-27 fourth set victory and the 3-1 overall win.
Helinski and
Anderson both led the Warriors in kills with 10 each while
Olivia Niekamp tallied nine.
Katrina Reynolds recorded three service aces, 10 digs and three assists while
Schriver led the team with 15 assists and added six digs.
Genna Karbowski ended the match with 14 assists, two service aces and five digs.
Jacey Blust earned 22 digs and two assists while
Madelyn Omo led the team with five blocks.
Cummings and
Niekamp each recorded four blocks.
Tech is back in action on Friday, January 29
th when they travel to Thomas More for a 6 p.m. match up.
