GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team kicked off a busy weekend with conference action with a 79-67 victory over Aquinas College Saturday afternoon inside the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.
Grant Smith scored a game-high 27 points to go along with five steals, four rebounds and three assists while
Josh Kline had 20 points and seven rebounds.
Lucas Lehrman added 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks in his first start of the season.
Tech started off the game strong with a 9-2 run to hold the early advantage, but a 10-2 spurt from Aquinas put them ahead 12-11 at the 13:04 mark. The Warriors held the Saints scoreless for a little over three minutes and went back on top with a 7-0 run to take a 22-17 lead at the 10:00 mark, but a 10-0 run from the hosts that was coupled with a 3:41 scoring drought from Tech put Aquinas on top 27-22. The two teams continued to trade the lead throughout the remainder of the first half, but a 10-5 run from Tech, powered by eight points from Smith to give him 23 in the period, knotted the game up at 42 at the break.
The Warriors went on a 7-0 run to open the second half, with all the points coming from Lehrman and Kline. A 7-0 run from Lehrman continued to power Tech as they went ahead 54-44 at the 14:09 mark and never look back. Aquinas cut the deficit down to six at multiple points, with the last one coming with 11:34 to play, and never truly threatened the rest of the game as the Warriors led by as many as 15 to extend its winning streak over Aquinas to seven games.
Tech (11-7, 2-1 WHAC) returns to action on Sunday, January 31 as they host Siena Heights. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
