Bowler Earns First Hat Trick in Program History in Sweep of Penn State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Indiana Tech women's hockey team continues to stay hot as they swept Penn State 5-1 and 6-1 this past weekend to improve their record to 5-1-1 on the season. 

In the first contest, it was Penn State who struck first after there was no scoring in the first period. Megan Yakiwchuk would even the game not even one minute later off of assists from Dakota Bowler and Mikayla Kalverda

Dakota Bowler would score just nine minutes later off of assists from Lauren Younker and Izzy Pettem-Shand. Jaiden Rogers would score ten minutes into the third period off of the assist from Ashley Episcopo to put the Warriors ahead 3-1 before Sterling Nesbitt would put two more pucks in during the 11th and 16th minute to cap the night off for the Warriors. 

It was Bowler's day on Saturday. After Nesbitt connected on a go-ahead goal in the 12th minute of period one, it was Bowler who took the puck coast-to-coast and put it in the back of the net for her first of the night under a minute later. Just 24 seconds into the second period she would score another unassisted goal to put the Warriors up 3-0 for her second on the night. At the nine minute mark in the second period, she did it again. Her third of the night off of an assist from Pettem-Shand to secure the first ever hat-trick in program history.

The Ice Lions would score their first of the night towards the end of the second period before Episcopo and Yakiwchuk would cap off the sweep with third period goals to put the home team up 6-1. 

Izzy Varner totaled 21 saves on the weekend to improve her record to 5-1-1. 

Tech (5-1-1, 4-0-0 CCWHA) will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on the Liberty Flames (2-0). The puck will drop Friday night at 7 p.m.
