Men's Hockey Earns Split with Wolverines

DEARBORN, Mich. - The No. 6-ranked Indiana Tech men's hockey team earned a weekend split with UM-Dearborn in a battle between the conference's most highly-touted teams.

Things did not start off well on Friday night for the Warriors. As the Wolverines got off to a scorching hot start, netting three goals in the first period to Tech's zero. Head coach Frank DiCristafaro and his team couldn't have responded any better, they made adjustments and didn't panic.

In the second period, it was Brandon Plummer who would score to put Indiana Tech on the board off of the assist from Joel Holmberg. The Warriors wouldn't give up anything on the defensive end, trailing 3-1 heading into the final period.

This is where things really started to heat up. It was the captain, Zach Bennett, who would score an unassisted goal just 15 seconds into the period. However, the Warriors would have to remain patient, and they did, as Joel Holmberg would score the tying goal at the 16 minute mark, and then just two minutes later it was the freshman, Malik Ali, who would score the go-ahead goal off of assists from Holmberg and Cole Barney before Brandon Plummer would put the Wolverines away with the empty-netter with 21 seconds to go. The Warriors took a thrilling game one, 5-3.

It was a different story when the Warriors traveled to Dearborn on Saturday. Tech never held the lead and lost the contest, 3-2. Cole Barney had a nice game, scoring both goals for Tech in the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Tech will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend as they host Concordia (5-1) on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
