Men's Hockey Earns Split with Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Indiana Tech hockey team split the weekend series with Davenport, as they were defeated on home ice Friday night, 5-3, and then took game two on the road, 4-3.

The highly-anticipated opening game for the Warriors came on Homecoming weekend, with an 8 p.m. puck-drop. Brandon Plummer scored the first goal of the season at the 12:06 mark to earn the Warriors a 1-0 start. However, Tech would give up two late power-play goals to go into the first intermission down 2-1. Alex Potter found the back of the net to start the scoring in the second period to tie the game up, but the Panthers would respond and then some, with a goal just one minute later and a power-play goal shortly after, putting the visitors ahead 4-2 going into the final period. Joel Holmberg would score first off of the assists from Axel Low and Malik Ali to pull the Warriors to within one, 4-3. It wasn't enough, though, as the Panthers would seal the game with an empty-netter, taking the game 5-3. Ty Barnhill had 16 saves on the night.

Tech then traveled to Grand Rapids on Sunday for game two of the series. Davenport would find the net first before Fabian Ganqvist would tie the game on an unassisted goal to go into the first intermission tied at 1-1. After no scoring in the second period, the Panthers would score two early goals in the third period, making the score 3-1. The Warriors would come up clutch on the road, scoring on three straight power-play goals from Matej Krasny (12:38, Cole Barney), Joel Holmberg (13:11, Malik Ali), and putting in the game-winner was Alex Carrothers (18:15, unassisted).

Braedyn Funke earned the win, making 26 saves on the day.

The Warriors will travel to Hudsonville, Michigan to take on Grand Valley State at the Georgetown Ice Center this Wednesday at 8 p.m.
